There will be plenty of time to figure it out while you work on your licence. I started as a sole proprietor and am fine with that but as i expand i am considering an S corp or LLC down the road. Again, you need to have experience in the trade.Īs far as the S corp thing is concerned thats all about how you plan to set up your business for tax puposes and such. Once you get a D or any other licence all you have to do to add another license is take the trade test for that trade and pass an file the appropriate paperwork and fees. Both licences will require a test for business but The D licence wont require a trade exam. The C-36 opens a lot of doors if you have the knowledge and can prove it and pass the test. You need to know how to properly install water lines, gas lines, DWV lines ect and plumbing codes for entire buildings, not just how to hookup a dishwasher or change an angle stop. Keep in mind that the C-36 license covers all aspects of plumbing, not just appliance installs so I hope you have the experience and knowledge of these. Nothing crazy but they will help with all the paperwork and prep you for the test(s). I assume you have at least 4 years direct experience doing this work and someone can sign off on that? I suggest going to a school to prep for your license. Get the license first then work on setting up your business.
